How to design packaging for wholesale cold brew coffee bags
Cold brew coffee comes in varied formats. It is served in cafés and restaurants in glass cups over ice, at home via wholesale cold brew coffee bags, and lines supermarket and convenience store shelves in aluminium cans or compostable plastic pouches.
Cold brew coffee is already an enormous market. Globally, revenues exceeded $2.59 billion in 2024 and are expected to grow at a CAGR of 22.67% over the next six years, topping $16.2 billion by 2032.
In any of the above forms, cold brew is backed by powerful consumer trends – increased preferences for convenient beverages, a shift to health and wellness-based purchasing, and stronger environmental values all contribute.
The right packaging for wholesale cold brew coffee bags is a crucial component of success when bringing a product to market. In the highly competitive coffee market, brands need to make sure their products stand out on shelves, convey sustainable messaging, and promise quality and value.

What are wholesale cold brew coffee bags?
Cold-brew coffee is packaged in various formats – aluminium cans, cartons, pouches, and plastic bags are all used in wholesale manufacturing. Aluminium cans have largely dominated the marketplace thanks to the format legacy of other beverage types (soft drinks, beers, and spirits), but recent innovation in packaging is providing more sustainable alternatives.
Wholesale cold brew coffee bags are one such example. Designed to satisfy the growing popularity of at-home cold brew consumption, these products are prepared similarly to tea bags: users require only cold water and a glass or cup to prepare a serving.
Writing in 2023, the National Coffee Association reported a 32% increase in people making their cold brew at home since 2019, a trend spurred by changing consumer habits during and following the COVID-19 pandemic.
Wholesale cold brew bags have been designed with the same goal in mind as cold brew concentrates, bag-in-box cold brew, and larger multi-serve cold brew pouches to help shoppers enjoy high-quality, convenient, and sustainably packaged cold brew coffee in the comfort of their own homes.

How important is packaging aesthetic to retail success?
Packaging design has always been an important part of the food and beverage industry. It usually makes the first impression on potential shoppers and helps companies differentiate themselves before product quality is tested. In recent years, the significance of packaging design has grown exponentially.
A recent report by Business Dasher found that 72% of shoppers agree that packaging design can influence their purchasing decisions, and 81% reported purchasing a new product because the packaging caught their eye.
“Food packaging contributes upwards of 30% of the product’s overall success,” says Houssam.
“The first appearance on the shelf reflects the quality and contributes to the marketing value. Moreover, it is an important part of the product’s actual usage and varies depending on the format.
In a post on Packworld, Hernán Braberman, partner and executive creative director at tridimage, explains the impact of younger generations on modern food and beverage packaging design.
“As Gen Z emerges as a potent consumer force, packaging design is undergoing a radical transformation…this demographic, known for its tech-savvy nature and strong social consciousness, demands more from brands than ever before. Their expectations extend far beyond mere functionality; they seek packaging that reflects their values, sparks joy, and makes a statement.”

How does sustainability play a part in packaging?
In 2024, 83% of consumers, regardless of age, are willing to pay more for sustainable products, and e-commerce platforms have witnessed a 15% rise in conversion rates due to eco-friendly packaging practices.
“Market by market, recycling, compostability, and upcycling are all important. People buy products and reuse or repurpose the packaging to use in their daily lives,” says Houssam.
“More and more people are becoming increasingly environmentally aware, and they care strongly about recycling and sustainability. Consumers are feeling the direct negative impact of environmental changes, so they care more strongly about such issues.”
These same learnings apply when packaging wholesale cold brew coffee bags. Packaging design should be attention-grabbing, fresh, and innovative and show a clear commitment to sustainable and environmentally friendly business practices. Following these principles will ensure products appeal to the widest base of shoppers, no matter their age or location.
